About Our Faculty
Ailes (Crist), Casey Jo – BFA, Herron School of Art. She works as a freelance artist specializing in photography and painting. Casey is the Gallery Curator at the Dean Johnson Gallery. She has been showing her work in galleries for the last ten years and her photography has been in Indianapolis Monthly and the New York Times. Her work can be seen at www.photosbycaseyjo.com.
Andrews, Sylvia – BA, Anthropology and Art History; MLS, Library and Information Sciences, Indiana University. She has exhibited her work at the Eiteljorg Museum and the Indianapolis Art Center and is a member of the Indiana Gourd Society. You can view her work at www.artiststouch.4t.com. Sylvia has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Babb, Douglas – Master Teaching Artist. Teaches “Music Technology” at IUPUI and “History of Rock and Roll” at Marian University. Babb was the first curator of the Moog Foundation, which celebrates the work of Bob Moog, a pioneer in composing music with electronically generated sounds. Douglas has been working with music technology since 1971.
Ball, Julie – MFA, Sculpture, Southern Illinois University; BFA, Sculpture, Ohio University. Taught sculpture and 3-D Design at Marian College and Herron School of Art. She has exhibited her work throughout the Midwest and eastern states. Recipient of Creative Renewal grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Julie has taught at the Art Center for over 13 years. Ballard-Harris, Ruby – BS, Home Economics, BS, Actuarial & Interior Design, and MSW, Purdue University. Her work has been displayed at the Detroit Festival of the Arts, Atlanta Black National Art Festival, Carmel International Arts Festival, Indiana State Museum and in Broad Ripple. Ruby has taught at the Art Center for over 12 years.
Battas, Alice – BA, Depauw University, Greencastle, IN. She studied ceramics in Lima, Peru, S.A. concentrating on Peruvian hand-building techniques and also at Herrron School of Art. Alice has taught at the Art Center for over 10 years.
Beam, Deb – MS, Learning Disabilities, Butler University; BA, Elementary Education, Hanover College. Besides teaching youth ceramics at the Art Center, Deb teaches pottery camps and clubs. She has taken ceramics classes at the Art Center since 1998 and has her own pottery studio. Her work can be seen at art fairs in the area.
Benabou, Jean – BFA and MFA, Painting, Otis Art Institute of Parsons School of Design, California. Attended Real-Time Academy in Tel Aviv, studied animation and gained membership in the Israeli artists and painters society. She has taught collage and painting techniques at Waldron Art Center in Bloomington, at San Diego Community College and currently at Herron. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally. Bennett, Stacy – BS, Microbiology, Indiana University. Stacy’s art education consists of classes at the Indianapolis Art Center, John C. Campbell Folk School in North Carolina and F.C. Dre’a Designs. Her main interest is in chain making and incorporation of both found and hand created enamel, glass and metal objects.
Berich, Tom – Has been playing steelpan professionally for over 16 years and studied performance and construction with Ellie Mannette, known as the “Father of the Modern Steeldrum”. He is dedicated to the education and progression of the steelpan artform. Tom has been a primary composer and recording producer for Verizon, Sprint and Alltel. Additionally, Tom has been a live event producer for Nickelodeon. His website is www.panusa.us.
Bond, Kathy – BA, Studio Art, University of West Florida. Studied with world-renowned enamellist Jean Tudor. Kathy has won awards in enameling for three consecutive years at the Indiana State Fair. Kathy has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Bosler, Morgen- 4th generation artist with 22 years of modern design and studio experience. Exhibited in local art shows and galleries throughout the US, including Chicago, Utah and North Carolina. Installations include Ameritech Cellular Headquarters, Midtown Grill and Lodge Design. Morgan owned and operated her own home and design store, MODPOD homethings.
Bowman, Mike (Photography Dept. Head) – ME, Purdue; MBA, Indiana University. Further study at Herron School of Art, Ansel Adams Workshop, Asilomar Workshop, and Yosemite Workshop. Has taught for the Friends of Photography in Carmel and San Francisco, was a photographic assistant to Ansel Adams in his workshops, and has conducted his own workshops in Sun Valley, Idaho. Mike has taught at the Art Center for over 30 years.
Breidenbach, Peggy – For the past decade or so, Peggy’s pottery hobby has turned into a passion. In addition to IAC instruction, she has engaged in ceramic classes at The Clay House, University of California in LA, and the Odyssey Center in Asheville, NC. She makes functional and decorative pottery using wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques. Peggy has taught at the Art Center for over 6 years. Her website is www.createdbypeggy.com.
Brill, Becky – Has been involved in photography and other art forms for over 30 years. She obtained her marketing expertise as a Realtor. She is past President of the Photo Venture Camera Club and is Co-Chairperson for “Creative Images”, an international photo competition. She is co-owner of Image and Verse LLC, a greeting card manufacturing company here in Indianapolis. Her website is www.imageandverse.com.
Brown, Jasmine – MA, African Studies, University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA); BFA, Graphic Design/Illustration, Howard University. She has worked as a researcher and illustrator for the Smithsonian Institution, National Zoological Park and on an archaeological excavation in Egypt. She is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the Indiana Writer’s Center.
Bruce, Chuck – With a background in interior design and fashion merchandising, Chuck has turned his passion to jewelry. He has certificates in Cabochon lapidary, advanced chain making, lost wax casting and spool knitting from Holland School of Lapidary Arts. His work can be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Buescher, Jessica – Masters in Art Therapy, Saint Mary of the Woods College. She facilitates Art Therapy groups and specializes in altered book collage.
Burris, Lydia – MFA, Norwich School of Art and Design, England; BA, Indiana University. Her work has been published in magazines, online publications, and various books. She has exhibited both here and abroad. Her piece was one of five picked to represent the Indypendent Art organization. She currently works as an artist and illustrator.
Carr, Shirley Werner – MA, Purdue University. A founder and Cardinal Fellow of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, she is also an exhibiting artist member of the Hoosier Salon and Indiana Artists Club. Some exhibitions include IMA, IAC’s Art 500 Exhibit, professional division at the Indiana State Fair, and Watercolor Society of Indiana. Shirley has taught at the Art Center for over 22 years. She was Instructor of the Year for 2008.
Carreno, Bernie – (Sculpture Dept. Head) – MFA and BFA in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin. He has completed numerous large scale public sculptures as well as many private commissions and is in private and public collections around the country. His work is exhibited in private galleries as well as museums. He is an accomplished sculptor nationally recognized as a master of fabricated(welded-steel and aluminum)sculpture and cast metal sculpture (aluminum, bronze and iron). Bernie has taught at the Art Center for over 7 years.
Clark, Emily – HNC Millinery, Kensington and Chelsea College, London; BA, Costume and Textile History, Cornell University, New York. As a fashion/fiber artist she has worked in theatres, museums and educational facilities. Most recently she has worked in London for the designer Philip Treacy making various pieces for fashion shows including Ralph Lauren, Alexander McQueen and Donna Karen. She has taught both children and adults in design/fashion courses.
Conrad, Kimberly – MFA, San Diego State University, CA; BA, Indiana University, Bloomington. She was an originating partner of Taboo Studio, a retail jewelry and metalwork gallery in San Diego, CA. She has taught and exhibited internationally. For the past ten years she has also been involved in the interior design business and started her own design company in 2004. Kimberly has taught at the Art Center for 10 years.
Cooper, Daniel – Attended Indiana University in Bloomington and the University of Indianapolis. He has owned his own graphic design business since 1986. Daniel’s paintings are in private collections around the United States and some have travelled the world. He is a founding member and first president of the Coalition of Indianapolis Artists and currently the chairman of IDADA’s Ethics and Fair Practices Committee. His website is www.CooperFineArt.com.
Craddock, Derryl – MAE, Herron School of Art; BAE, Ball State University. His work was exhibited in Clay Fest and the Art Center’s Annual Student Show. He is a ceramics instructor at Warren Central High School. Derryl has taught at the Art Center for over 10 years.
Craig, Karen – Graduated from IUPUI Photography Certificate Program and New York Institute of Photography. Photography is her second career. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Indiana University and a Master’s Degree in Administration from Butler. She is a member of the Photo Venture Camera Club and is currently doing freelance work in the Indianapolis area. Her website is www.karenscraig.com.
Daniel, Doug – Graduate of Herron School of Art with an emphasis on extensive portrait and figure studies. Has received many awards and commissions throughout the region. He is a long-time exhibitor and awards winner at the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana State Fair and the

Davis, Lois – BFA, Herron School of Art. Has taught art since 1956. She has taught and conducted workshops in color theory, composition, perspective, painting and portraiture. Exhibitions include Rockford Drawing Competition, Watercolor USA, Evansville Mid-States
and Hoosier Salon. Lois has taught at the Art Center for over 33 years.
DeGan, Judy – Has studied ceramics at the Art Center since 1997. She has her own pottery studio. Her work can be seen in many popular art fairs. Judy’s artwork may also be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Her website is www.pieceofmypeace.com. Judy has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Del Campo, Hector Rene – MFA, University of South Florida; BFA, Herron School of Art in Painting. He has taught at the university level since 2001. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions as well as solo exhibitions. His work has been commissioned and he has pieces in several private collections. His work has also been featured in several publications.
Domer(Smiley), Cassandra - Graduated from the University of Cincinnati. She has been creating both commercial and residential murals, book illustrations and her own series of artwork titled Earthscapes. Her most recent artwork was a commission for a mural at a store in Fishers. Cassandra is a scientific and botanical illustrator.
Dominic, Judy – Has a mastery of basketry and a fascination with primitive dyeing techniques. Judy teaches and exhibits regionally, nationally, and internationally. Producer of fiber conferences and a curator of basketry exhibits, she was honored in Cincinnati for enhancing the quality of community life through art. Her website is www.judydominic.com.
Doyel, Jennifer- MS and BS in Art Education, Indiana State University. She has been an educator for over 37 years including teaching at the middle school and high school level. She has taught art in both 2D and 3D mediums. She is a Program Coordinator for Project EXCEL.
Drizin, Joan – Graduated from the Academy of Communicative Arts in Cincinnati and
worked as a graphic artist for 15 years. She also studied ceramics and metal sculpture at the Art Center. Currently, she works out of her studio in Noblesville and sells her work at art fairs. Joan has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years.
Ellis, Lee – Has enjoyed woodworking as a second career since 1993. He is an active member of the American Association of Woodturners. He has taken many classes and attended symposiums to learn new woodturning skills. His work has been shown locally at the CCA Gallery in Zionsville and many local art shows. Lee has taught at the Art Center for over 8 years.
Eney, Carole – BA, Studio Art, University of West Florida. She is an abstract painter and has had her work exhibited in the Midwest and in Florida. Carole has taught children’s classes at the Art Center for over 9 years and was formerly the Education Associate. She currently works out of her home studio in Fishers.
Engelland, Timothy E. – Attended ISU, Tyler School of Art, Yale and Cornell. He is the co-founder of Deerfield Gallery Press, publishing limited edition volumes of poetry. Timothy has exhibited at the Gallery of Graphic Arts NYC, the Hoosier Salon, the MFA Boston, and at many universities, including Dartmouth, Westover, Northampton, and Smith.
Evans, Glenn - MS and BS Miami University, Ohio. PhD in Biology from North Carolina State University. He has been sculpting at the Art Center since 2005 and has experience casting in bronze, iron and aluminum. He is also an accredited Judge with the American Orchid Society.
Evon, Suzanne – Suzanne has completed numerous courses at noted art schools and studied with a master jeweler to become a successful professional retail artist. She has run her own design company for over 15 years. She does workshops on designing and marketing jewelry. She participates in shows around the country and markets her work on several different websites including her own www.qevon.com.
Ezell, Sandy – BA, St. Olaf College, Minnesota. An award winner in many local and regional juried shows, she has published several limited and open edition prints. Sandy has taught at the Art Center for many years over the past 4 decades. Her artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop.
Finney, Sandi – Full time production potter. Her company, Hole Pottery, produces functional stoneware for everyday use. Sandi has taught at the Art Center for over 7 years. Her website is www.holepottery.com.
Fischer, Gloria (Drawing Dept. Head) – BFA with high distinction, Herron School of Art. Studied in France and Italy. She has been in over 80 public exhibitions at the IMA, Indiana State Museum and international venues. Gloria is represented by galleries in Indianapolis, Chicago and San Francisco. Her studio is in the Murphy Art Center. Gloria’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Frank M. Basile Gallery Shop. She has taught students at the Art Center for over 28 years.
Flaherty, Patrick (Printmaking Dept. Head)- MA and BFA Printmaking, Ball State University. Focuses on both traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques and materials. He is currently the Exhibitions Associate at the Art Center. Patrick has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Flaherty, Valorie – BFA, Drawing, Ball State University. She is a self taught seamstress with a passion for fashion. She studied fashion illustration while attending school and now has a new line of baby apparel entering the market.
Gogulis-Danenman, Anita – BGS, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Has studied at the Indiana University Bloomington Metalsmithing Studio, Herron School of Art, and metals at the 3x3 Latvian School of Arts & Crafts in Three Rivers, MI. She was co-owner of Acme
Functional and Collectable Art, a gallery of limited edition and one-of-a kind artwork. Her work is exhibited in various galleries and shows nationally and internationally. Anita has taught at the Art Center for over 11 years.
Gray, Sylvia – BA, Indiana University, Bloomington. She began painting on silk in 1994 under the guidance of Stephanie Lewis Robertson. The majority of her work is painted silk scarves which can be viewed in the Basile Gallery Gift Shop. She continues to work on her painting and drawing skills. Sylvia’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Sylvia has taught at the Art Center for over 8 years.
Grayson, Eric – Specializes in 16mm and 35mm film screenings, meshing historical context with entertainment. His vast library of material has been used in several productions, notably the A&E Biography on Ernie Kovacs. Eric has provided films and lectures in New York, Kansas and Finland. He has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years.
Grosser, Mark – Nationally recognized and award-winning artist. He has participated in over 120 professional art fairs and festivals from coast-to-coast. Mark has been a jury member for art fairs, most notably the Pt. Clinton Art Festival in Chicago, a show rated in the top 25. He is the chairman and founder of the Bench Jewelers Passion Awards, given each year at the national Bench Jewelers Convention. Mark currently operates from his design studio in Carmel, Indiana’s Arts and Design District and has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years. His website is www.mgrosser.com.
Hancock, Caryl Rae – Has been involved with fiber arts since the mid 70’s, and began teaching in 1978. She learned to marble (all wrong!) in 1979, and has been practicing ever since. Her fiber work has been shown both nationally and internationally, published starting in 1980, and has won many awards. She is primarily known for her wearable art, and has had several exhibitions of marbled papers and garments.
Heath, Sharon – A self trained artist in many mediums. Started in the 60’s and 70’s making jewelry and body adornments out of various natural and manmade materials. She enrolled in a glass fusing class at the Indianapolis Art Center 8 years ago and has since made a living out of selling her work through galleries, museums, fine gift shops and traveling the Midwest and Southern states doing juried art shows.
Helrigel, Dan – BA and Certificate of Museum Studies from Indiana University, Indianapolis. He currently works as a freelance photographer and is also a staff photographer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He has taught photography at IUPUI.
Henderson, Tina – BA, Indiana University, Indianapolis; two years at Herron School of Art. Has taken a variety of classes at the IAC and other local community art classes for over 10 years. She has taught classes at the Fine Arts Academy in Carmel. She has done commission work and enjoys mixed media collage painting.
Hilden, Katherine – Studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has taught Drawing and Composition classes for a number of years. Her work has been in one person and group shows in the Midwest and she has exhibited twice at the Galerie Penumbra in Indianapolis.
Hill, Loran R. – BS Design, Cincinnati University. Ceramics teacher and professional potter for 36 years. He specializes in the raku process, large forms, kiln and burner construction and reduction techniques. Founder and department head of ceramics department at OCC, Olney, Illinois. Loran has taught at the Art Center for over 23 years and was Instructor of the Year in 1998.
Hodgin, Susan – BFA, University of Montana, Missoula. A native of Indianapolis, she is currently working and living as an artist within the Indianapolis community. Susan has taught at the Art Center for over 6 years. Her website is www.susanhogin.com.
Hubenka, Evan – BFA, Ohio University; MA Philosophy. He has studied with Steven Hill, Tim Mather, Joe Zoeller, Henry Tanaka, and most recently Robert Piepenberg. He has been a functional potter for 16 years. Evan also taught at the Art Center in the mid 90’s.
Inger, Sofiya – BFA with Honors, Kirov School of Art, Russia; courses in Textile Design, Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. She has taught primarily children in school settings and through private tutoring. Her work has been featured in both solo and group exhibitions in Indiana and is in private and corporate collections here and abroad, including the American Embassy in Moscow.
Johnson, Ben – Received a BFA from Kent State University and continued his education at the Corning Museum, Pilchuck and the Scuola del Vetro Abate Zanetti in Italy. He has taught glass blowing at the Indianapolis Art Center and Diablo Glass in Boston. He has also assisted classes at Penland, Haystack Mountain and Ox-Bow School of Crafts. Johnson has received numerous awards for his glass work and exhibits throughout the United States.
Johnson, Jan – Attended Indiana State University. She has taught for library art programs, bead stores, bead societies, children’s art enrichment programs and has conducted her own workshops. Jan’s beadwork and wirework can be found in several fine art fairs throughout the Midwest and Southeast, as well as in retail stores and galleries. Jan is a founding member of the Indiana Bead Society. Jan has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years.
Kang Partington, Soyong – Studied graphic design at Sook Myung Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. She is a member of the Indiana Potter’s Guild, NCECA and American Potters Council. She is a Creative Renewal Fellowship winner and was a workshop coordinator at the World Ceramic Exposition in Korea in 2001. Soyong’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Frank M. Basile Gallery Shop and other galleries in the Midwest. Soyong has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years. Her website is www.soyong.com.
Keele, Janelle – BS in Interior Design, Indiana State University. She is a self-taught knitter who enjoys making hand-made gifts for family and friends. She has taught classes at the Carmel Academy of the Arts as well as the Art Center.
Kenyon, Matt – Graduating from Herron School of Art in Furniture Design. He has been blowing glass at the Art Center for 9 years. He incorporates mixed media into his work including glass, metal, wood, rope and bead work. Matt has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Kirby, Debbie – Attended Herron School of Art. She was certified to teach PMC in the summer of 2006. She received ‘Best in Sculpture’ at the Art Center’s student show and received a 2nd place sculpture award at the Indiana State Fair in 2004.
Koen, Martha – Graduate of Brighton College of Art/Sussex University in Fine Art, painting and printmaking. Born in Britain, she has spent most of her life involved in the arts and has been painting icons for 14 years.
Laird, Tom (Wood Dept. Head) – BA, University of Notre Dame. Has exhibited his work at fine art fairs and galleries throughout the Midwest since 1980. He also teaches at American Sycamore Woodworkers Retreat. He is a full time furniture designer and builder. His artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Tom has taught at the Art Center for over 6 years.
Lawson, Hali – BA, Herron School of Art and Design, with a focus in illustration. She has several years experience teaching and working with children. Her work has been featured in local exhibitions and also in local publications.
Lee, Nancy – Nancy has over 10 years experience working with metals. She studied at the Indianapolis Art Center and Arrowmont School of Crafts. She has exhibited her work primarily in the Midwest.
Loebel, Dusky - Self trained artist who has taken numerous classes in metalsmithing and fused glass. She has exhibited in many regional shows. She also has extensive teaching experience at the university level.
Luther, Elaine – Studied Metalsmithing at the University of Iowa, Columbia College and the Jewelry Design Institute. She exhibits her work in the Chicago area and has taught both adults and children since 1992. She studied gemology with the Gemological Institute of America and has also worked in fine jewelry manufacturing to expand her jewelry experience. She was a charter member of the board of the Chicago Metal Arts Guild. Elaine has taught at the Art Center for over 12 years. Her website is www.ElaineLuther.com.
Macchia, Nina – MA in Museum Studies, JFK University, CA, undergraduate minors in Art, Art History, and Anthropology. Training in textile conservation. For 15 years Nina studied under and assisted Master Weaver Vreni Landolt, a student of Bauhaus artist and teacher Johannes Itten. Specializes in loom controlled and traditional weaving structures.
Mandich, Heidi- BS, Butler University. Heidi has taken metalsmithing classes every semester since the beginning of 2006 at the Indianapolis Art Center and at F.C. D’rea Design. She has also taken workshops in acid etching, design & jump rings. Her pieces have been selected for the juried student show at the IAC and is carried in galleries in Indianapolis and Colorado and juried art fairs in the area. Mandity, Bianca – Mixed media artist with trainings and certifications in various art mediums. She has teaching experience involving all age groups and skill levels. She has had her work published in several books.
Massey, M. Kathryn - OPA, AA. Massey presents traditional fine art influenced by the Dutch and Flemish Masters. Teacher, painter and writer, Mary is acknowledged for her classical still life paintings. She is writing her first book on painting. She holds professional memberships with American Artists Professional League and Allied Artists of America among others. Her work and articles have been featured in several national publications. Matus, Todd – MFA, Photography, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; Graduate Study in Photography, Purdue University, West Lafayette. Has taught photography courses at Herron School of Art and Purdue. He has exhibited his work and given lectures throughout the United States. His work has been published in regional and national magazines and he is the author of the book “Broken Views”.
Maubach, Rebecca- BA of Art Education, Herron School of Art and Design. She has taught Visual Arts at the elementary level in Indianapolis. She taught Pottery and Fine Arts Camps at the Indianapolis Art Center in 2007.
McKee, John – BFA in Photography, Herron School of Art. He lives in Irvington and has been teaching art in various mediums for over 10 years. He is the gallery director for Ashland Art Gallery in Broad Ripple. John has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years.
McLeod, Phil – BS, Indiana University. US Army Chemical Corps, 1950-1954. MS, Butler University, 1961; EDS Butler University, 1967. Indianapolis Public Schools: Teacher of Art 1954-1960, Elementary 1960-1966. Director, Reading Clinic 1966-1985. Title I Reading 1985-1993. Over forty years experience teaching, informal and non-traditional instruction with students winning prizes at the Indiana State Fair for the last 7 years. Phil has taught at the Art Center for over 9 years. His artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop.
Moczygemba, Cara – MFA in Ceramics, California State University, Long Beach, California. Cara has been working with clay for over 20 years. She has taught both at colleges, including Herron, and art centers and given demonstrations around the country as well as the Indiana State Museum. Her sculptural ceramics have been exhibited at SOFA Chicago, and at galleries nationwide.
Monninger, Jack – BFA in Visual Communications and Fine Art, Herron School of Art. An Indianapolis artist and art teacher in the MSD of Lawrence Township, he has won several teaching awards. He was chosen to participate in the 2003 Indianapolis 500 Festival “Art in Motion” project designing a fiberglass racecar. His artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Muchnik, Tatyana – BA, Major in Theatre Decoration and Minor in Art Education, College of Art, Simferopol, Ukraine. She was an art teacher in Tel Aviv as well as a costume designer and decorator for theater productions. She has provided private art instruction for several years in Indianapolis and her students won a national art contest. She has exhibited her work both here and abroad.
Newell, Pamela Chase – BFA, University of Massachusetts, continued her study at the Indianapolis Art Center. Pam is an award-winning artist whose paintings have received recognition in many regional and national juried competitions. She has had solo and group exhibitions including a collaborative show with a Smithsonian Museum SITES exhibit. Her paintings are found in local and national collections and regional galleries. Nolan, J D – Primarily self-taught, studied photography under Mike Bowman, Howard Bond and John Sexton. Represented by a gallery in Zionsville. His work has been collected for Eli Lilly Company’s Corporate Collection. J D has taught at the Art Center for over 7 years.
Okamoto, Yuri - BA in Glass from Meisei University in Tokyo, Japan. Studies include all glass forming techniques: blowing and furnace work, pate de verre, casting, fusing, slumping, mosaic glass and lampworking. Has been working in the IAC glass program since fall of 2003. Advanced studies at the Corning Museum of Glass. Her work may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Studio Shop. Owens, Sharon – Sharon is experienced in lead tubing and German-style color overlays, some Pyrex scientific work and moretti glass. Partington, Michael – Freelance artist, illustrator and designer. He has been a horological sculptor and designer for numerous years and is also a corporate Web site designer. Patterson, Richard - – MFA, Temple University, Tyler School of Art; BFA, Herron School of Art. He has taught painting and drawing classes at Herron for 20 years. Richard has taught at the Art Center for over 26 years.
Peacock, Farideh – Educated in Teheran and Saint Martin’s School of Art in London, England; BFA in Painting, Herron School of Art. Continued training at the workshop of Eric Taylor, the former president of Leeds College of Art and a distinguished British Abstract
painter throughout the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Farideh has taught at the Art Center for over 15 years.
Pelo-McNiece, Lisa (Glass Dept. Head) – BFA specializing in Glass, Bowling Green State University, OH; graduated Cum Laude. Recipient of Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant and Arts Council of Indianapolis Creative Renewal Fellowship. Designed the 2003 ARTI awards for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Pentecost, Vandra – BFA, Herron School of Art. Vandra is a conceptual figure artist, working in a variety of media and styles; her award-winning art has been exhibited in juried competitions regionally and internationally. She regularly attends the Thursday Herron Alumni Drawing Group figure sessions and monitors open studio life drawing sessions at the Art Center. She has created graphic designs, illustrations, and painted large-scale murals for commercial and residential sites throughout Indiana as co-owner of Linder Design. Peterson, Nancy – BA, Westminster College; Graduate studies, University of Tennessee. Taught ceramics for 8 years at the Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan. Has taught various art classes for Carmel Parks and Recreation for the past 10 years, working with
preschoolers through adults. She has been commissioned for work in ceramics, stained glass, fabric sculpture, furniture painting and jewelry. Nancy has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Phillips, Sally – A self-taught wire-wrapping jewelry artist who has been selling for many years at art fairs and through galleries. Received Faculty of the Year award in 2002 from the Art Center. Sally has taught at the Art Center for over 12 years. Sally’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Frank M. Basile Gallery Shop.
Pierson-Hutson, Stephanie- BFA, Ceramics and Sculpture, Herron School of Art. Upon graduation, she began teaching at the Indianapolis Art Center where she taught numerous classes at both the child and adult level. She has been exhibiting her work professionally since 1990 in galleries and juried art fairs around the country and continues to exhibit today. Her current focus in on sculptural, non-functional work that is whimsical, full of color and lots of fun.
Points, Jerry – MFA, Southern Illinois University. Jerry has taught at the University of Evansville, Ivy Tech, and Art Institute of Indpls. Member of Indiana Artist Club, IPAPA, Hoosier Salon, and the Stutz Artist Assoc. Recently won exhibition awards at the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Heritage, Indiana Artist Club, and selected to be a part of the Indiana State Museum permanent collection.
Prado, Lisa – MBA, Indiana University; BS, Purdue University. Certified PMC instructor through the PMC Guild. She has been involved with the design, creation and sale of jewelry since co-founding Gemware in 1987. Her fabricated pieces are created in her home studio

Quillen (Schmetzer), Jennifer – BFA in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design, Indiana University. With extensive work in sterling, fine silver, copper, brass and alternative materials, her unique and dynamic pieces have been shown in Bloomington, Indianapolis and Chicago. She researched locally made jewelry and metalwork in Egypt, as well as across the U.S.
Ramanathan, Chitra – MBA and BFA, University of Illinois. She has taught at the university level exhibited work in art galleries, including several solo exhibitions in New York and Chicago. Following the recent renovation of the Hotel Bellagio, two large paintings by Chitra are permanently displayed in the Café Bellagio in Las Vegas. She recently completed a successful lecture tour speaking about her career and painting techniques at the Royal Academy of Arts, London. Reiberg, Robert (Ceramics Dept. Head) – BA, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Having taught in public schools in the Virgin Islands, Chicago and Indianapolis, Bob is now a full time potter working out of his home studio. He produces functional and nonfunctional ceramics for galleries and art fairs. Received Faculty of the Year award in 2003 from the Art Center. Richcreek, Sarah – BFA, Ball State University. She has exhibited regionally and won several awards for her work. She was a bench jeweler for two years. Sarah balances metalsmithing with ceramics.
Ridenour, Roger – Masters Award, Marc Adams School of Woodworking, Franklin, In; BS, Engineering and Technology, Purdue University, Indianapolis. He has been a self-employed contractor and woodworker since 2000. He developed and taught classes through his professional experience and in various venues of private life.
Rothenberg, Jeff – MD, MS. 10 years experience in hot blown glass with instruction from the Art Institute of Chicago and the Indianapolis Art Center. He has work in numerous private and public collections and has exhibited extensively. He is interested in the use of art as a tool for healing and as an adjunct in training health care professionals. When not in the hot shop he is a full time Associate Professor and faculty member of the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Rudie, Ryan – Discovered his passion and talent for ceramic art in 1997 when he enrolled in an elective hand building class as an undergraduate at the University of Northern Colorado in Greenly. Two years later, Rudie opened his own ceramics studio in his hometown, Rockford, IL. Rudie’s work has been showcased in juried, solo, group and invitational exhibitions.
Ryan, Tim – A self-employed artist and instructor since 1973. His ceramics have been displayed at numerous regional art fairs, exhibitions and galleries, and several of his installation art pieces, created in collaboration with his students, are permanently installed at sites in Indiana. Has received Individual Artist Grant Awards from the Indiana Arts Commission and the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Tim has taught at the Art Center for over 21 years.
Santoro, Roxanna- Received her formal training in metalsmithing at the Indianapolis Art Center and spent many years using found objects to design jewelry. She has also worked in costume design and textiles. Currently she has her own business, Abraxas Designs, and sells her jewelry at art shows throughout the Midwest.
Schuetz, Caryl – BA, Butler University. Has been involved in quilt-making and fiber arts for over thirty years. She has studied with national fiber artists/teachers at Quilt Surface Design Symposiums, Pro Chemical and Dye Company, the IAC, and Nancy Crow Timberframe

Siskind, Ellie (Painting Dept. Head) – Regionally recognized artist with work in the permanent collections of four Indiana museums, most recently the Permanent Collection of the Indiana State Museum. Siskind is a recipient of the 2002-03 Creative Renewal Grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Art Center showcased her show “Lipstick” in November 2006. Collectors, both public and private, own Siskind’s work which has been exhibited in over 50 invitational and competitive group exhibitions and fourteen solo shows. Skinner, R. Carol – Herron School of Art graduate, Carol is a painter and illustrator. Her subjects, often in architectural drawings, lend well to urban landscapes depicting company, church, and school histories in pictorial form. They are used for presentation for special occasions, openings and memorials in both watercolor and oil. Carol has taught at the Art Center for over 13 years.
Smith, Marilyn (Metalsmithing Dept. Head) – MA, Ball State; BS, Indiana Univeisity. Received awards including Fine Arts 1st Forged Metal Governor’s Award; Indiana State Fair, Professional Division Award; Fair on the Square in Columbus; Whitewater Valley Arts Exhibit at IU East, Jewelry Award; and Wearable Art Show of Richmond Art Museum, Whitewater Valley Arts Association. Marilyn has taught at the Art Center for over 23 years.

Tesdahl, Laura – Professional Educator’s License in Visual Arts; Elementary and Secondary Teaching Certificate in Art; BFA, University of Dayton, Ohio. She has taken several classes in botanical art through the Botanical Art and Illustration Program at the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. She has taught at the elementary and secondary level for over 14 years. Her work has been in solo and group exhibitions around the Midwest. She currently owns and operates an art studio where she teaches classes.
Tipton, Sandra – BA, Indiana University. She has taken many photography, darkroom and alternative process classes from colleges in Florida and Indiana. Her work has been published in a number of books and the national publication, Parade Magazine. She is also the winner of many awards including a national photo contest put on by Parade Magazine and Kodak. Sandra has taught at the Art Center for over 6 years.
Trujillo, Giselle – Originally from Caracas, Venezuela. Her work is in many private and public
collections in Venezuela and she has exhibited her work in many galleries there. She is a producer and has worked on numerous projects in her native country.
Vance, Bobbie- Has sewn from childhood, done fabric loom weaving, dyed since 1990, spent several years bead weaving, designed and constructed Art-To- Wear, created Artcloth, and been published for one of her art quilts. She is a founding member of Artist’s Own, a cooperative art gallery of mixed media in Lafayette, IN. Bobbie has taught at the Art Center for over 5 years.
Vargo, Sharon – BFA in Communication Design, Pratt Institute, NY. Her whimsical paintings have appeared in magazines, textbooks, murals, and children’s books, including Senor Felipe’s Alphabet Adventure, Highlights magazine, and Lee Bennett Hopkins anthology. Velez, Anna – BFA in Drawing, University of Iowa. She is professionally trained as a paperhanger and has over 30 years experience of working with wallpaper, patterns, textures and colors. Vicars-Pugh, Crystal – MFA in Painting, Indiana State University. She is a large scale painter with an eye for color. Crystal has instructed drawing and art appreciation at ISU, and has taught at many summer art workshops throughout Indiana and Ohio.
Villanyi, Laura – BA, Art History and minor in Graphic Design, Purdue University. She is a member of the Indiana Glass Bead Society, a member of the International Society of Glass Bead Makers and a continuing student of all things creative.
Waddle, Amanda – MA and BFA in Ceramics, Ball State University. While in school, Amanda
worked as a graduate assistant in the ceramics studio mixing clay, glazes and firing pottery.
She has taught ceramics to both adults and children. Amanda has taught at the Art Center for over 8 years.
Wade, Justin – Attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. Justin grew up on stages around Indianapolis including TOTS, Civic, Phoenix, MRTC and YAT. He has taught drama in Lawrence Township schools and IPS, and is currently the Director of Young Actors Theatre. He is also the drama teacher for Artitude, an arts program for Indiana incarcerated youth.
Walker, Sarah - BA in Visual Arts and Education, Purdue University. She taught middle school art for four years and private oil painting and drawing lessons for eight years. She has studied abroad in Italy and exhibited her work state wide while receiving numerous commissions for painting and drawing.
Walters, Brad – BFA, Applied Media Arts, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a graphic designer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and 714 Ink on Paper.
Werner, Michelle – MS, New Media Arts and Science IUPUI, Certificate of Computer Art and Animation, BFA from Herron School of Art. Currently employed as a Web Developer for the IU School of Law school site, she has worked in the graphic design field since 1996. She has taught computer courses at Herron School of Art & Design and the Art Center.
Willow, Bim – Has been building rustic furniture for over 30 years. Teaches numerous workshops and courses including furniture building, stone carving, and recycled art. Founded and organized the Rustic Lifestyle Show, MI. His work has been commissioned by the Field Museum and Chicago Botanic Gardens. Wilson, Janet - Master of Social Work, George Williams College, Illinois. She has worked as a clinical social worker for about forty years. Through the last 5 years she has used creative expression to facilitate programs at the Wellness Community. Jan has been a student of the Indianapolis Art Center since 1994 and is a recent graduate of the Docent program at the IMA.
Woods, Erika – Born in Vienna, Austria , she received her degree from the Vienna Institute of Fashion Design. For the past 25 years she has been an active freelance calligrapher and teacher at the Indianapolis Art Center. Erika has participated in workshops given by some of the world’s leading authorities on calligraphy. Her award winning work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at the Washington National Cathedral, Schriftmuseum Bartlhaus in Austria, the AlphaMark traveling exhibit and Words of Hope an ACA juried exhibit. She was recently named Instructor of the Year 2009.
Yenna, Heath – BFA in Painting and Drawing, Indiana University, South Bend; BA, Art Education, Indiana State University. He has taught painting and was the gallery director for a gallery in South Bend, Indiana. He has exhibited his work around the United States.
