About the Art Center / Faculty    
Instructors at the Indianapolis Art Center are professional artists and educators. Many hold terminal degrees in their medium and have had national and international recognition.

 

Anderson, Kim – MFA, Ceramics, Wichita State University; BFA, Ceramics, West Virginia University, Morgantown; BA, Ceramics, California University. Has participated in several exhibitions. and is an Indiana Arts Grant recipient. She recently received 1st place at the Well Street Art Fair and is an Adjunct Professor at Ball State University.

 

Asselberghs, Wally – Received his ceramic training at the Art Academy in Antwerp, Belgium. He has been working in clay for more that 25 years and started specializing in “Naked Raku” in 1995. He started organizing and teaching workshops in Belgium on this technique in 1998. He is also the creator and moderator of the “International Naked Raku Forum” on the Internet which has over 500 members from 27 different countries exchanging information about this technique.

 

Avenins, Aija – MFA, Painting, Indiana State University; BFA, Painting, Herron School of Art; AAS Advertising Art and Design, State University of New York. Taught at Vincennes University, Bauder Fashion College in Atlanta and worked as a commercial artist in New York, Chicago and Indianapolis. Her exhibitions include: National Collage Society, Hoosier Salon, Sheldon Swope Museum, Indiana State University and Indianapolis Art Center.

Ball, Julie – BFA, Sculpture, Ohio University; MFA, Sculpture, Southern Illinois University. Taught sculpture and 3-D Design at Marian College and Herron School of Art. She has exhibited her work throughout the Midwest and eastern states.

 

Ballard-Harris, Ruby – BS, Home Economics; MSW, Purdue University. She designs Afro-centric clothing and has participated in several local fairs including the Broad Ripple Art Fair and Africafest. Exhibits include Eli Lilly, Marion County Public Library,

Indianapolis Museum of Art and Columbus Indiana Museum of

Art. Ruby’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Barnes, Barry – MFA, Ceramics, Arizona State University. Taught at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University in Arizona. He has had many commissions and has been featured in a variety of publications.

 

Batchelder, Hartley – Associate of Science Degree in Multimedia & Web Design, New England Institute of Art and Communication. He has many years experience with graphic software and is a full-time production artist. Regional winner in Adobe/Art Institute

design contest, 2001.

 

Battas, Alice – BA, Depauw University, Greencastle, IN. She studied ceramics in Lima, Peru, S.A. concentrating on Peruvian hand-building techniques.

 

Bond, Kathy – BA, Art, University of West Florida. Studied with world-renown enamellist Jean Tudor. Bond has won awards for three consecutive years in enameling at the Indiana State Fair.

 

Bowman, Mike (Photography Dept. Head) – ME, Purdue; MBA, Indiana University. Herron School of Art, Ansel Adams Workshop, Asilomar Workshop, Yosemite Workshop. Has taught for the Friends of Photography in Carmel and San Francisco, was a

photographic assistant to Ansel Adams in his workshops and has conducted his own workshops in Sun Valley, Idaho.

 

Breidenbach, Peggy – For the past decade or so, Peggy’s pottery hobby has turned into a passion. In addition to IAC instruction, she has engaged in ceramic classes at The

Clay House, and University of California in LA. She makes functional and decorative pottery using wheel-throwing and hand-building techniques.
 

Brill, Becky – Has been involved in photography and jewelry making for the past 30 years. She has been active in the Photo Venture Camera Club since 2001, securing judges

for competitions and inviting artists to come speak to the group.

 

Cardwell, JoAnn – Kansas City Art Institute and Lincoln University, MO. Exhibits include: Indiana State Fair Professional Exhibit, IAC’s Art 500 Exhibit, Tippecanoe Regional Exhibition, Hoosier Salon, Watercolor Society of Indiana, Indiana Artists Club,

among others. Her paintings are shown by Editions Limited Gallery of Indianapolis. She has been an instructor at the Art Center since 1984. JoAnn’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Carr, Shirley Werner – MA, Purdue University. A founder and Cardinal Fellow of the Watercolor Society of Indiana, she is also an exhibiting artist member of the Hoosier Salon, Indiana Artists Club and Hamilton County Artists Association. Some exhibitions

include: IMA, 500 Exhibit, professional division at the Indiana State Fair, Watercolor Society of Indiana.

 

Carreno, Bernie – (Sculpture Dept. Head) – MFA and BFA in Sculpture from the University of Wisconsin. He has exhibited nationally and been in both public and private collections in California, Illinois, Wisconsin and New York.

 

Clay, Kay – BAE, MAE, Herron School of Art. Experience: Art Department Head, Manual High School, IUPUI Herron School of Art. Awards: Lilly Teacher Creativity Fellowship, Arts Indiana Post Card Winner, Indiana Artists, IMA, Art 500, Wabash Valley, Michianna Biennial Competition Awards, Wolcott Graduate Award at Herron School of Art, Lilly Foundation grant for postgraduate study, State Fair Governor’s Awards (3) and West

Baden Angels People’s Choice Award.

 

Conrad, Kimberly – MFA, San Diego State University, CA; BA, Indiana University, Bloomington. She was an original partner of Taboo Studio in San Diego, a retail gallery of one-of-a-kind and limited edition jewelry and metalwork. Taught in England and in

the United States and has exhibited internationally.

 

Cooney, Jack – A lifelong book lover, he has been making books by hand since 1990. Through his Shaker Press Books studio he provides a full range of hand bookbinding services using vintage tools and traditional techniques. His specialty is designing

presentation books and boxes.

 

Craddock, Derryl – MAE, Herron School of Art; BAE, Ball State University. His work was exhibited in Clay Fest and the Art Center’s Annual Student Show. He is a ceramics instructor at Warren Central High School.

 

Crossland, Kyle – Graduate of Kansas City Art Institute. Worked with artists Ken Furguson, Victor Baba, John Balasteri and others. He is currently the Ceramics Studio Technician at the Art Center.

 

Daniel, Doug – Graduate of Herron School of Art with an emphasis on extensive portrait and figure studies. Has received many awards and commissions throughout the region. He is a long-time exhibitor and awards winner at the Hoosier Salon, the Indiana State Fair and the Indiana Heritage Arts Show.

 

Davis, Lois – BFA, Herron School of Art. Has taught art since 1956. She has taught and conducted workshops in color theory, composition, perspective, painting and portraiture. Exhibitions include Rockford Drawing Competition, Watercolor USA, Evansville Mid- States and Hoosier Salon.

 

DeGan, Judy – Has taken ceramics classes at the Art Center since 1997. Has her own pottery studio. Her work can be seen in many popular art fairs. Judy’s artwork may also be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Despot, Shirley – BAE, Herron School of Art; MS, Butler University. Additional work at the University of Indianapolis and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, Gatlinburg, TN.

Dobson, Jacob – MFA, New York Academy of Art; BFA, Bringham Young University- Hawaii. Recent exhibits and awards include: Best Sculpture Awards in both the 80th and 81st Annual Hoosier Salon and 2005 Popular Choice Award, “Interpretations of the Figure” regional exhibit. Shows include: Diploma Show 2004, NYAA, New York, NY; Solo Show “Parables” 2002, JFS Gallery, Laie, Hawaii. Jacob’s work is primarily figurative sculpture. He also is an oil painter and draftsman.

 

Drizin, Joan – Graduated from the Academy of Communicative Arts in Cincinnati. She worked as a graphic artist for 15 years. She also studied ceramics and metal sculpture at the Art Center. Currently, she works out of her studio in Noblesville and sells her work at art fairs.

 

Easter, Jean – Degree in Restoration of Decorative Objects from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. She was the Frame Conservator for the Indianapolis Museum of Art for 11 years. In 2001 she started Easter Conservation Services where she conserves frames, furniture, gilded objects and does architectural gilding, faux finishing, archival framing and matting. Recipient of a Creative Renewal Fellowship, she studied with the head frame conservator of the National Portrait Gallery in London, England. In May 2004, she was selected to be a part of a group that studied French furniture making in France.

 

Ellis, Lee – Has enjoyed woodworking as a second career for the past 10 years. Member of the American Association of Woodturners and past president of the local Woodturners

Association. He has worked with numerous woodworkers and has attended many symposiums to further his studies in turning wood. His work has been at the Broad Ripple Art Fair, Penrod and many Indiana libraries. His pieces are on display at the CCA

Gallery in Zionsville where he serves as President.

 

Eney, Carole – BA, Studio Art, University of West Florida. She has taught children’s classes at the Art Center and currently is the Education Associate at the Art Center.

 

Engelland, Timothy – A painter and a woodcut artist, Tim returned to the Midwest after thirty years in New England and New York City. He is an active participant in the Herron School drawing group and is represented by the Gallery of Graphic Arts in New

York. His work is included in numerous private collections as well as The National Library in Ireland and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

 

Ezell, Sandy – BA, St. Olaf College, Minnesota. An award winner in many local and regional juried shows, she has published several limited and open edition prints.
 

Finney, Sandi – Full time production potter. Her company, Hole Pottery, produces functional stoneware for everyday use.

 

Fischer, Gloria (Drawing Dept. Head) – BFA with high distinction, Herron School of Art. Studied in France and Italy. She has been in over 80 public exhibitions including IMA, Indiana State Museum and international venues. Gloria is represented by galleries in

Indianapolis, Chicago and San Francisco. Her studio is in the Murphy Art Center. Her work is in many corporate and private collections around the country. She has taught students

at the Art Center for over 20 years. Gloria’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Flaherty, Patrick – MA and BFA Printmaking, Ball State University. Focuses on both traditional and non-traditional printmaking techniques and materials. He is currently the

Gallery Technician and Studio Coordinator at the Art Center.

 

Fonseca, Francisco – Attended the School of Fine Arts at the State University of Mexico in Toluca, Mexico. Has participated in many workshops in wax, clay sculpture, stone carving and bronze. He has been commissioned for many pieces that are on display in

Cancun, Mexico.


Frownfelter, Elizabeth
– BFA, Art Therapy, Millikin University. Studied and taught at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA. She has taught art classes for youth since 1998.

 

Gogulis-Danenman, Anita – BGS, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Has studied at the Indiana University Bloomington Metalsmithing Studio, Herron School of Art, and metals at the 3x3 Latvian School of Arts & Crafts in Three Rivers, MI. She was co-owner of Acme Functional and Collectable Art, a gallery of limited edition and one-of-a kind artwork. Her work is exhibited in various galleries and shows nationally and internationally.

 

Gothrup, Ryan – BFA in Fine Arts Crafts, Kent State. He has over 8 years experience in glass blowing. Ryan has exhibited nationally and taught both adults and children. Ryan belongs to a group of artists that maintain a gallery in Historic School 30. Ryan’s work

may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop or School 30.
 

Grade, Susan Watt – MFA in Sculpture from Washington University in St. Louis, BA in Studio Art & English from University of New Hampshire. Grade creates sculptural installations and mixed media, assemblage artworks, many with an environmental

theme. She is interested in how our society’s products and architectural structures mimic nature, and likes to work with salvaged materials and multiples of objects. Grade is also

the Exhibitions Associate at the Indianapolis Art Center.

 

Gray, Sylvia – BA, Indiana University, Bloomington. She began painting on silk in 1994 under the guidance of Stephanie Lewis Robertson. The majority of her work is painted silk scarves which can be viewed in the Basile Gallery Gift Shop. She continues to work on her painting and drawing skills. Sylvia’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Grayson, Eric – Film historian and collector living in Indianapolis. He specializes in 16mm and 35mm film screenings and strives to mesh historical context with entertainment. His vast library of obscure material has been used in several productions,

notably the A&E Biography segment on Ernie Kovacs. The upcoming Encyclopedia of the Midwest will include two of his articles on film production and history. Eric has provided

films and lectures in New York, Kansas and even Finland.

 

Greene, Sara – BFA, Ceramics, Saint Mary’s College. Received her art education certificate from Herron School of Art in 1996. Teaching experience includes Indianapolis Art Center since 1991 and Roncalli High School from 1996-2000.

 

Greer, Jeff – Indianapolis-based fine art and wedding photographer. His web site is www.photojg.com.

 

Greiner, Rick – Primarily self-taught in porcelain wheel-throwing, studied for two years under the tutelage of Andrea Freel, an instructor at the Indianapolis Art Center. He has had exhibits at the Art Center and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Rick’s artwork

may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Grosser, Mark – Jewelers of America Certified Master Bench Jeweler. (The first bench jeweler in Indiana to receive this distinction.) He has 25 years of experience as a professional jeweler. He is a member of the Society of North American Goldsmiths. Won top placement in national design jewelry competitions and is currently working as a free-lance custom jeweler and designer. Harper, Natalie – Currently pursuing a degree from Herron, with a concentration in ceramics. She has taught ceramics on an individual level and has experience working with youth and teens.

 

Heilbrunn, Bella – Graduated from Padagogische Akademie, Salzburg, Austria. Has been teaching art in Salzburg, Austria and Indianapolis, Indiana over the past 20 years. She has exhibited at Shloss Seeburg, Salzburg. She loves to paint, sculpt and weld in her spare time.

 

Hill, Loran R. – BS Design, Cincinnati University. Ceramics teacher and professional potter for 36 years. Specializing in the raku process, large forms, kiln and burner construction and reduction techniques. Founder and department head of ceramics

department at OCC, Olney, Illinois. Instructor at Indianapolis Art Center since 1986 and Instructor of the Year in 1998.

 

Hinant, Cindy – Student assistant at North Central High School in ceramic classes. Began working at the Art Center in 2000 as an assistant in youth mixed media and ceramics before becoming a teacher here at the Art Center. Currently pursuing a BFA in

ceramics at the Herron School of Art.

 

Hodgin, Susan – BFA, University of Montana, Missoula. She has extensive experience working with children of all backgrounds and abilities. A native of Indianapolis, she is currently working and living as an artist within the Indianapolis community.

 

Hodson, Gayla – BA, Art Education, Southern Illinois University. Furthered education with classes at IUPUI, Herron School of Art and the Indianapolis Art Center in drawing, ceramics, computer art. She has eight years of teaching experience. She ran a small

business painting murals and designing furniture.

 

Hurst, Kris – BA in Fine Arts Studio, Indiana Universtity, with a concentration in painting and textile design. She has taught both adults and teenagers. She currently works part-time in the Education Department at the Indianapolis Art Center as the

Registrar.

 

Jackson, Andrea - MFA Metalsmithing, Texas Tech; BFA Metalsmithing, Ball State. Owner of FC Drea Design in Indianapolis. Adjunct Professor, Metalsmithing, Spring 2006,

Herron School of Art and Design.

 

Jones, Immanuel-Keston – BFA in Glass and minor in Metals, Cleveland Institute of Art. He has been blowing and casting glass for more than eleven years. Began his teaching career at the Cleveland Institute in 1994. He has worked for national and

international artists and his work is in many private collections. Awards include ’Best of Show’ Indiana Black Expo Summer Celebration 2005. Show at Penrod 2005; solo shows

at Red Dot Glass Gallery and Jewish Community Center Mordoh Gallery. Immanuel’s work can be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Kang Partington, Soyong – Studied graphic design under Jong Hwa Park and sculptor Jong Myung Hong at Sook Myung Women’s University in Seoul Korea. She has participated in the Broad Ripple Art Fair and has frequent one-woman shows at various galleries throughout the Midwest. She is a member of the Indiana Potter’s Guild, NCECA and American Potters Council. Creative Renewal Fellowship winner and a  workshop

coordinator at the World Ceramic Exposition in Korea 2001. Soyong’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Koby, Michael – MFA in Fine Art, The School and Museum of The Art Institute of Chicago. His work has appeared nationally and internationally, most recently at the Art Institute of Chicago and The Roger Brown Collection 1926 Gallery. He is the author ofseveral volumes of poetry. He has taught Art and Art History at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Gary Artworks-a Gallery 37 Project, and most currently at theIndiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

 

Kunkle, Julie – BS in Visual Arts Education, Indiana University. Currently pursuing Masters in Art Therapy at Saint Mary of the Woods College.

 

Laird, Tom - BSME (Wood Dept. Head) – BA Phil, University of Notre Dame. Has exhibitedvhis work at Fine Art fairs and galleries throughout the Midwest since 1980. He also teaches at American Sycamore Woodworkers Retreat. Full time furniture designer and

builder. He has been commissioned for a variety of custom designs.

 

Leap, Sue – Graduated from Herron receiving the Rodger Gould-Walcott award for top graduating artist. Works as a commercial and graphics artist here and in Alaska. She spent 15 years as the editor and layout artist for a children’s publication called Hunik

Zoo’. She won the top award in the professional division at the Art Center Annual Student Show in 1999.

 

Liao, BiLan – Fine artist who is a member of the Associate Faculty at Herron School of Art, IUPUI where she teaches Chinese Art, color and design theory and drawing.

 

Lively, Barry – Is retired from the corporate world and has taught at the university level. He offers his many years of business experience to marketing artists’ work.

 

Lowrance, Chris – MFA in Painting, Indiana University; BFA in Painting, Southwest Missouri State University. He has taught painting and drawing at the high school and university level. He has participated in both solo and group exhibits throughout the

United States.

 

Lowrance, Melanie – Working towards MFA in Painting at Indiana University; BFA in Painting, Missouri State University. She has teaching experience in high school and university settings. She has won many grants and scholarships. She has participated in exhibitions in the Midwest and as well as the South.

 

Luther, Elaine – Studied Metalsmithing at the University of Iowa, Columbia College and the Jewelry Design Institute. She exhibits her work in the Chicago area and has taught both adults and children since 1992. She studied gemology with the Gemological

Institute of America and has also worked in fine jewelry manufacturing to expand her jewelry experience. She was a charter member of the board of the Chicago Metal Arts Guild and is currently serving as a member at large.

 

Massey, M. Kathryn – American painter, M. Kathryn Massey is a Signature Member of Audubon Artists and the American Academy of Women Artists. She also holds memberships with Oil Painters of America, American Artists Professional League and

Allied Artists of America, among others. She was included in a book on painting still life and florals published by International Artist Magazine, released in 2005 and will be featured in Pure Pastel, to be released in 2006. Ms. Massey was featured in the May 2005

issue of Art of the West magazine on still life painting. Ms. Massey was invited to exhibit in Florence, Italy in the Florence Biennale, 2005. She was also juried into the national Oil Painters of America exhibition and the Equine Art Class. You can view her work at

McLeod, Phil – BS, Indiana University. US Army Chemical Corps, 1950-1954. MS, Butler University, 1961; EDS Butler University, 1967. Indianapolis Public Schools: Teacher of Art 1954-1960, Elementary 1960-1966. Director, Reading Clinic 1966-1985. Title I Reading 1985-1993. Over forty years experience teaching, 76 years experience being singularly off-center. Informal and non-traditional instruction with students winning prizes at the Indiana State Fair for the last 5 years.

 

Moczygemba, Cara – Cara has been working with clay for nearly 20 years. She has a MFA in Ceramics from California State University, Long Beach, and taught at Herron School of Art for 2 years. Her sculptural ceramics have been exhibited at SOFA Chicago, and at galleries nationwide.

 

Monninger, Jack – BFA in Visual Communications and Fine Arts from Herron School of Art. An Indianapolis artist and art teacher in the MSD of Lawrence Township. He has won several teaching awards during his career including the WRTV Channel 6 Teacher of the Week, IPALCO Golden Apple Award and two Lilly Endowment Teacher Creativity Fellowships. He was chosen to participate in the 2003 Indianapolis 500 Festival Inc. Art in Motion project designing a fiberglass racecar.

 

Murff, Derric – Currently works as a freelance artist and illustrator. He has experience in pencil drawing, but mainly works in graphite, charcoal and conte. He also has experience with many computer imaging software programs. You can view his work at

Myers, Carol (Fiber Dept. Head) – Myers, Carol (Fiber Dept. Head) – BFA, Printmaking, University of Michigan. Currently concentrating on fiber art in addition to printmaking.

She is the Indiana/Ohio representative for the Studio Art Quilt Associates. She maintains a studio at the Indianapolis Art Center’s Cultural Complex.

 

Ndiaye, Ismalia “Izo” – From Senegal, West Africa. He has taught batik in both the U.S. and West Africa. His batiks have been sold in the U.S., Germany, France and Italy. In 1997, he participated in the Crosscurrents exhibition at the Art Center. Izo’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Neckar, Bruce – Honors Graduate of Ball State University. Studied with Floyd Hopper and Burling Boaz and assisted Thomas Minkler in Printmaking and Drawing at BSU. Participated in both group- and one-man exhibitions and has won many awards. He has

developed and assisted many workshops and lectures in Printmaking.

 

Nolan, J D – Primarily self-taught, studied photography under Mike Bowman, Howard Bond and John Sexton. Represented by a gallery in Zionsville. His work has been collected for Eli Lilly Company’s Corporate Collection.

 

Okamoto, Yuri – BA in Glass from Meisei University in Tokyo, Japan. She has studied glass techniques such as pate de verre, casting, fusing, slumping, mosaic glass and lampwork.

She moved to the United States in 2002 and has been blowing glass at the Art Center since the fall of 2003. Yuri’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Owens, Sharon – Sharon is experienced in lead tubing and color overlays (German style), some Pyrex scientific work and moretti glass. She has received schooling and apprenticeships from many different instructors, including Penland and Pilchuck.

 

Partington, Michael – Freelance artist, illustrator and designer. He has been a horological sculptor and designer for 25 years and is also a corporate Web site designer. He has taught at the International Business College, Purdue University and the

Indianapolis Art Center for the last 17 years. He has exhibited and won a variety of awards throughout Indiana.
 

Patterson, Richard – BFA, Herron School of Art. MFA, Temple University, Tyler School of Art. He has taught painting and drawing classes at Herron for 20 years.

 

Pauckner, Jenny – BA, Art, Marian College. She is currently pursuing her MFA in painting at Indiana State University.

 

Peacock, Farideh – Educated in Teheran and Saint Martin’s School of Art in London, England. BFA, painting, Herron School of Art. Continued training at the workshop of Eric Taylor, the former president of Leeds College of Art and a distinguished British Abstract painter throughout the late 1970’s and early 1980’s.

 

Pelo-McNiece, Lisa (Glass Dept. Head) – BFA specializing in Glass, Bowling Green State University, OH, graduated Cum Laude. Recipient of Indiana Arts Commission Individual Artist Grant and Arts Council of Indianapolis Creative Renewal Fellowship. Received

awards from regional and national juried exhibitions with work also in permanent collections. Designed the 2003 ARTI awards for the Arts Council of Indianapolis. Lisa’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop. Her Web site is www.HotBlownGlass.com.

 

Perrin, Myra – BA, Interior Design, Butler University; BFA Furniture Design, Herron. She has exhibited work in juried and group shows in Indiana and has won awards including

Best of Show for her work in furniture design. Member of The Furniture Society and Women’s Woodworking Guild of Indiana.

 

Peterson, Nancy – BA, Westminster College, graduate studies, University of Tennessee. Taught ceramics for 8 years at the Center for the Arts in Midland, Michigan. Has taught various art classes for Carmel Parks and Recreation for the past 10 years, working with

preschoolers through adults. Has had work commissioned in ceramics, stained glass, fabric sculpture, furniture painting and jewelry.

 

Pinto, Toni – BFA in Printmaking, Southern Oregon University; BA in Industrial Technology, California State University. Began a photography career in photojournalism, then worked in commercial photography for 10 years in Seattle, WA. Recently began

translating photographic work using the printmaking process.

 

Points, Jerry – MA, Indiana State University; MFA, Printmaking at Southern Illinois University. Taught printmaking and drawing at the University of Evansville and Photoshop at Ivy Tech, Columbus. Former Art Director at Lilly and Creative Director at Outside Source Design. Working in his studio at the Stutz, Jerry is focusing on painting and digital medium. 2004 Penrod award in painting and former Creative Renewal Arts Fellowship recipient.

 

Prado, Lisa – MBA, Indiana University; BS, Purdue University. Certified PMC instructor through the PMC Guild. She has been involved with the design, creation and sale of jewelry since co-founding Gemware in 1987. Her fabricated pieces are created in her

home studio and can be found at various retail locations.

 

Ramanathan, Chitra – MBA and BFA from University of Illinois. She has taught at the university level and exhibited work in universities and commercial art galleries. She has had several solo exhibitions in New York and Chicago. Her work can be found in private collections in the U.S. and Europe. Following the recent renovation of the Hotel Bellagio, two large paintings by Chitra were permanently displayed in the Café Bellagio.

 

Reiberg, Robert (Ceramics Dept. Head) – BA, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. Having taught in public schools in the Virgin Islands, Chicago and Indianapolis, Reiberg is now a fulltime potter working out of his home studio. He produces functional and

nonfunctional ceramics for galleries and art fairs. He has worked and taught at the Art Center since 1989. Received Faculty of the Year award in 2003 from the Art Center. Bob’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Ryan, Tim – A self-employed artist and instructor since 1973. His ceramics have been displayed at numerous regional art fairs, exhibitions and galleries, and several of his installation art pieces, created in collaboration with his students, are permanently

installed at sites throughout Indianapolis and elsewhere in Indiana. Has received Individual Artist Grant Awards from the Indiana Arts Commission and the Arts Council of Indianapolis.

 

Savini, Shelley – Graduate student in Art Education, Herron School of Art. She lives and works in Broad Ripple as a mural artist and fine arts painter.

 

Scherer, Mike – BA in Fine Arts and Education, Indiana University. Has 30 years experience providing art instruction in the studio arts. In this 30 years he has also produced a wide variety of illustrations, paintings, murals and sculptures for businesses

and other organizations.

 

Schuetz, Caryl – BA, Butler University. Has been involved in quilt-making and fiber arts for almost thirty years. She has studied with national fiber artists/teachers at Quilt Surface Design Symposiums, Pro Chemical and Dye Company, the IAC, and Nancy Crow Timberframe Barn. She has been teaching and lecturing nationally since 1990. She had a solo exhibit at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum and exhibits nationally in invitational and juried shows. Her works are in private collections here and abroad.

 

Segovia, Magdalena M., – Born in Veracruz, Mexico. She graduated from the “Escola Panamericana de Artes” in Brazil with a Degree in Painting and Photography. She has had her work displayed in both collective and individual exhibitions in Brazil and Mexico. Her work is permanently on display in the Banco de Arte Gallery, in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

 

Siskind, Ellie – Regionally recognized artist with work in the permanent collections of three Indiana art museums in addition to being a recipient of the 2002-03 Creative Renewal Grant from the Arts Council of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Art Center

showcased her work entitled “Artists and Models” in the fall of 2002. Siskind’s work has been exhibited in over 50 invitational and competitive group exhibitions and twelve one-person shows. The Siskind bibliography includes forty articles in various publications

and books.

 

Skinner, R. Carol – Degree from Herron School of Art. Her illustrations have appeared in many local publications. She has also illustrated three children’s books. She also depicts histories of companies, churches and schools in watercolor in the form of

composites for opening and anniversary celebrations.

 

Smith, Marilyn (Metalsmithing Dept. Head) – BS, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN; MA, Ball State University, Muncie, IN. Exhibitions: 2002 State Fair, received Fine Arts 1st forged metal Governor’s Award, Indiana State Fair, Professional Division, Fair on the Square in Columbus, Whitewater Valley Arts Exhibit at IU East, Jewelry Award and Wearable Art Show of Richmond Art Museum, Whitewater Valley Arts Association.

 

Stocksdale, Drew – Studied with Bernie Carreno and Steven Tanaka at the Indianapolis Art Center. Has participated in exhibitions at the Art Center and has outdoor sculptural

works on display in Indiana.

 

Stoner, Ruth – BS, Indiana University. Post-graduate studies at Herron School of Art. Full-time ceramic artist with a studio in Broad Ripple. She produces functional and decorative artwork with an emphasis on tiles. She has worked and taught at the Art

Center since 1988.

 

Sugarman, Jennifer (Youth & Teen Dept. Head) – MFA, University of Mississippi; BA, Northwestern University. Taylor Rosner, Ginny – BFA, photography, Herron School of Art. Taught photography at ITT Technical Institute. Exhibits include Boom Baby! The Last Days of Market Square Arena, Indianapolis Art Center; Falling Toward Grace, Indianapolis Museum of Art;

Indiana Directions 1992, Indianapolis Art Center; Senses of Place: The Built Environment, Turmin Gallery, Indiana State University.

 

Traugott, Leah – Graduate of Herron School of Art, Indianapolis. She has had 43 oneperson shows, received numerous awards in juried exhibitions, and her work is in the permanent collections of three Indiana museums. She served on the Board of Directors at

the Indianapolis Art Center and three terms as a visual artist panelist of the Indiana Arts Commission. She is also a Cardinal member of the Indiana Watercolor Society. She has

been a longtime instructor of watercolor and pastel and was recognized as Faculty of the Year at the Art Center in 2000. Leah’s artwork may be seen at the Art Center’s Basile

Gallery Gift Shop.

 

Trujillo, Giselle – Originally from Caracas, Venezuela. Her work is in many private and public collections in Venezuela and has exhibited her work in many galleries there. She is

a producer and worked on numerous projects in her native country.

 

Vance, Bobbie – Has sewn from childhood and is a self-taught dyer of fifteen years. Within the past seven years, she has been designing and constructing art-to-wear from her hand dyed, printed silks. She is a founding member of Artist’s Own, a 24 artist run

cooperative art shop of mixed media in Lafayette, IN.

 

Villanyi, Laura – BA Art History, Purdue University. She has been a student of the arts for all her adult life, delving into several different mediums. She is an active member of the International Society of Glass Bead Makers and shows and sells her work in several states.

 

Vondersaar, Joe – BFA Visual Communications from Ball State University. He worked as an Associate Photographer for many years for a photographic company. He received an

Indianapolis Arts Council Creative Renewal Fellowship Award in 2001. He is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers and has had work exhibited in numerous

exhibitions.

 

Waddle, Amanda – MA and BFA in Ceramics, Ball State University. While in school, Amanda worked as a graduate assistant in the ceramics studio mixing clay, glazes and

firing the pottery. She has taught ceramics to both adults and children at the Indianapolis Art Center.

 

Wade, Justin – Attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. Justin grew up on stages around Indianapolis including TOTS, Civic, Phoenix, MRTC and YAT. Mr. Wade has taught drama in Lawrence Township schools and IPS, and is currently the Director of Young Actors Theatre.

 

Walters, Brad – BFA, Applied Media Arts, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. He is currently a graphic designer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and 714 Ink on Paper.

 

Wentz, Beth – Attended Ball State University. Member of IN Fiber. She has conducted many classes in the art of papermaking and has been involved in many competitions. She has won numerous awards in the Midwest.

 

Woods, Erika – Graduate of Modeschule Hetzendorf, Vienna, Austria. Self-directed studies with international lettering artists. Freelance calligrapher and graphic designer. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at the Washington

National Cathedral, Schriftmuseum Bartlhaus in Austria, AlphaMark traveling exhibit and Words of Hope, an ACA juried exhibit.

 

Wyss, Marcus – Web Design and Web Animation, Herron School of Art; Bachelor of Arts, Marion College. Works as a production artist. Proficient in current image and layout programs as well as website layout.
