Day of the Dead
Group Activity, Tours and Presentation
October 15 – October 28 and November 5 – November 14, 2008

Group tour and Hands-on Activity will be provided from October 15th thru October 28th AND November 5th thru November 14th. Groups will receive a guided tour of the altar exhibition that will last for 45 minutes and an interactive activity that will last for 45 minutes. Groups must be 10-15 people. The fee for tour and activity is $8 per person.

Groups will choose a hands-on activity depending on age:

Sand Skeletons -
Participants will create a small-scale sand painting of skeletons using sandpaper, colored sand and glue. Participants will learn the significance behind sand sculptures, also known as tepetes, as well as their role in current Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. Ages 10 and up.

Calavera Tag -
Participants will create a calavera tag which has an image on one side that will be created using stamps, scrapbooking and specialty paper. The other side will contain a poem or special message about the person being remembered. This activity is for adult groups.

Interactive Presentation will be provided to groups with more than 15 people. All groups will meet in the Frank M. Basile Auditorium to learn about the traditions of the Day of the Dead. Groups will then be able to tour the altar exhibition on their own with an interactive worksheet and then regroup to talk about their experience. Price is $5 per person.
